Day #8 – Elverson, PA to Columbia, PA – 63 miles / 101 km

The daily average of the first week is 51.7 miles (82.8 km). Taking Dad’s advice, the brothers try to slowly raise this average 5 miles/day (8 km/day) each week. This way in a few weeks they would reach 70 miles (113 km) / day, which should be their general average for the entire trip. They did a good job today.

There is no more rain, but Peter and Janos met a new challenge: heat. Today they biked uphill in 90°F (32°C). They said, physically this was the most demanding part so far. They consumed 1 G (4 l) water each, and yes, they wear long sleeve shirts and use sunscreen.

There was no campsite where the map showed one. Already in dark, they got permission from a nice person to spend the night in their front yard. Thank you!

States: 3  Total: 425 miles / 681 km

  1. Hi Peter and Janos,

Great job there. Wish I could ride with you. To beat the heat, start early in the morning and rest mid-day.

    All the best,

    Rudi.
